Stop

Updated: Oct 27

We are all born bent to sin. Whether it's a bent toward alcoholism, lust, greed, homosexuality, deceitfulness, gossip, judgmentalism, or other vices and addictions, the sin of our first father weaves its defectiveness through us. But that's not who we are.

We must stop identifying as our choice of sin. As a culture, we must stop identifying as the kind of sexual expression we prefer or our feelings in the moment. Stop inciting the same confusion, guilt, shame, moral depravity, and psychological delusion that our sexual experimentation has caused ourselves onto others, especially innocent children.

Stop allowing your sin to define you.

Our original father sold out our inheritance to the evil one. God gave Adam dominion over everything. By doubting the character and nature of God and His Word - presuming to know better and perhaps enticed not to limit his appetite and experimentation - Adam indulged in sinful rebelliousness against God, high treason against the Most High.

God gave the world to us. Adam gave it away and lost our inheritance. God came back to reclaim it, to give it to us again, purchased with His precious blood. We need only to believe in Him, accept His gift, to become an heir.

When we come to Christ, He sets us free from the sin that so easily entangles us and the death that sin brings with it. When we choose to follow Christ, we don't stay in our sin. Our sin is not our name. Our sin does not define us. Our sin is not who we are.

God has a better name for you.

Beloved. Redeemed. Holy priesthood. Set apart. Saint. Chosen. Heir. Masterpiece. Bride. Ambassador. Light. Salt. Disciple. Son or Daughter. Child. Blessed. Found.

And so much more ...

You are not your sin. Your sin does not define you. God will set you free from sin and give you a better name. Just reach out to Him.

Are you ready for a new start?

So from now on we regard no one according to the flesh. Although we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s trespasses against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5)

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)
